Kuna (100 lipas). Currency can be exchanged in banks, exchange offices, posts, travel agencies and hotels.

Drinkable in all parts of Croatia.

Fire protection

If you notice a fire, please call 93 or 112 immediately; until firefighters arrive, try to put out the fire, but be careful not to put yourself or others in danger! Obey the signs prohibiting bonfires! Be careful not to leave your vehicles where they block fire lanes and access.

Search and rescue

In case of accidents on land and at sea, call 112.

Croatia by car

Mobile phone use is prohibited when driving. Fastening the seat belt is mandatory.

Documents

A drivers licence and registration card, as well as proof of insurance are needed to enter Croatia.

Speed limits

  • in residential areas: 50 km/h
  • outside residential areas: 90 km/h
  • on roads for motor vehicles and fast roads: 110 km/h
  • on motorways: 130 km/h
  • motor vehicles with a trailer: 80 km/h
  • buses and buses with a light trailer: 80 km/h

Driving with lights on is mandatory during winter, day and night (0-24).

Gas stations

Open from 7 AM to 7 or 8 PM every day; during the summer season until 10 PM.
Gas stations in bigger cities and on larger international roads are open 0-24.

In case of a traffic accident

In case of an accident, first notify the police by dialling 92. It is not obligatory in case of an accident with smaller damage. Secure the spot of the accident by setting down a triangle and make sure there is no additional danger. Wait for the police to arrive. In case of damage on the vehicle, make sure you receive a confirmation from the police about the vehicle damage or you will not be able to cross the border. If you need a repair or transportation to a service station, dial 987 for road assistance (if calling from abroad, dial +385 1 987).

How to avoid traffic jams

For avoiding prolonging the travel and waiting in traffic jams, we advise you inform yourself about the road and ferry traffic conditions at the Croatian auto club (HAK) before your trip at +385 1 4640 800 or through channel 2 of the Croatian radio (RDS – HRT 2).
